§ 2-412. Structure, organization and composition.

  • (a)

    The county parks and recreation commission shall consist of eight members appointed by county council. With respect to seven of the eight members, each member of county council shall have the right to place into nomination one member who shall be a resident of the council district of the nominating council member to be appointed by a majority vote of county council. Each of these members shall serve a term that shall expire at the same time as the council member from whose district they are appointed, unless sooner removed by majority vote of county council. The eighth member of the commission shall be a member of county council who shall be appointed by a majority vote of county council and whose term shall expire at the same time as his term of office as a member of county council unless sooner removed by a majority vote of county council. Any person seeking to be appointed to the Commission, save and except the county council member, shall make application for membership on a form prescribed by the county administrator, which application shall be submitted to county council for appointment.

    (b)

    Officers of the commission shall consist of a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-treasurer, and such other officers as may be elected by a majority vote of the commission. The officers of the commission shall be elected by the commission each year for terms of office that shall commence on January 1 of the following year. Officers shall serve terms of one year and shall continue in office until their successors are elected and qualify.

    (c)

    The members of the commission, including officers, shall serve without pay but may be reimbursed for travel and other incidental expenses incurred in connection with the commission's responsibilities; however, such reimbursement shall be subject to compliance with ordinances, policies and procedures established by the county council governing the reimbursement of expenses for county boards, agencies and commissions.
